The AN/PRC-155 Manpack radio is the first tactical radio for the dismounted soldier to communicate using the Wideband Networking Waveform, delivering unprecedented capacity, speed and connectivity
07:17 GMT, May 18, 2012 SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. | General Dynamics C4 Systems recently demonstrated wireless high definition video and data transfer to government customers using the Wideband Networking Waveform (WNW) on the JTRS HMS AN/PRC-155 two-channel networking manpack radio. General Dynamics funded the implementation of the waveform using the same manpack hardware currently being produced under the JTRS HMS program of record. WNW delivers unprecedented capacity, speed and connectivity for voice, data and other large files moving through mobile tactical networks.
“The JTRS HMS program has provided the DoD with an operationally tested two-channel manpack that can readily incorporate new waveforms. This demonstration shows the potential of the HMS platform to support the services at higher tiers of the network,” said Colonel John Zavarelli, Program Manager, Joint Tactical Radio System Handheld Manpack Small Form Fit (JTRS HMS).
One of three networking waveforms in the JTRS library, WNW provides the backbone function needed to seamlessly transport large amounts of data across the tactical network. The Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW) delivers networked voice and data communications for individual soldiers and edge devices that have tight size, weight and power requirements. The Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) waveform enables satellite communications and leverages advanced wireless technology that is similar to terrestrial cellular communications. A waveform provides the transport of information through a network including the physical signal, protocols and security as well as routing functions.
“WNW is running on the same radio hardware that we are shipping to the Army today so this is unlike any manpack offering on the market. The powerful waveform can also run on radios that fit into small vehicular installations as well as those used by dismounted soldiers,” said Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems. “The PRC-155 Manpack is the only tactical radio to demonstrate the successful use of all three networking waveforms: SRW, WNW and MUOS.”
General Dynamics C4 Systems is the prime contractor of the JTRS HMS radio program, which includes the two-channel PRC-155 networking manpack radio. These manpack radios are currently in low rate initial production and are in Multiservice Operational Test and Evaluation at Network Integration Exercise 12.2 in support of a full rate production decision scheduled for later this year. JTRS HMS program of record radios have competition built in so that the government can get the best, most cost-effective pricing for radios well into the future.

Martin May Regional Director, Enterasys Networks.
The rapid evolution – or revolution – of computer networking, with its ever-changing standards, warp speed communications updates and truck-load capacity upgrades, has characterised the IT sector in recent years. At the same time, new applications have arisen, presenting a host of management and security challenges to network administrators.
These and many other topical issues are addressed in the latest (third) edition of ‘Enterprise Networking – Everything You Need to Know’ – now published as an e-book, downloadable over the Internet.
The fully illustrated 2012 edition is a complete re-write. It covers the history of networking – spotlighting the companies and the technologies that have played important roles in the evolution of the corporate network. It addresses the mergers and acquisitions that have coloured and characterised the industry since the dawn of the computer age.
‘Enterprise Networking – Everything You Need to Know’ addresses subjects as diverse as backbone technologies and bridging, switching and routing. Key areas of interest include new-age cloud computing and network management in today’s challenging, BYOD (bring your own device) business environment.
It includes a 1 000-word glossary, covering most technical terms and acronyms in the networking world, with easy-to-understand explanations. “Complying with the original mission, this e-book continues to keep the technical information non-partisan,” says publisher Martin May.
“’Enterprise Networking – Everything You Need to Know’ is a no-nonsense, no-hype and sales-free zone designed as a useful source of information, not a thinly-disguised product brochure,” says May, who is the regional director (Africa) of Enterasys Networks.
“It reflects the contrasting, and sometimes contradictory, world we live in – the physical world of wires and antennas and switches and routers, and the virtual world of broadband connections, cloud-based networks and the on-demand consumption of computing resources.”
‘Enterprise Networking – Everything You Need to Know’ is available only as en e-book from the following online sources at $ 2.99.

MIAMI — The XBIZ Summit, presented by AWEmpire, began to find its rhythm on Wednesday as the top digital media executives in adult entertainment converged on the Shelborne Hotel in the heart of South Beach for the first full day of events.
The diverse schedule of activities included five different educational seminars, two Speed Networking sessions and a colorful lineup of poolside cabana exhibits featuring the adult industry’s leading service providers.
And no one seemed to mind the cloudy weather, not with Miami Beach literally 50 yards from the Shelborne pool deck, where dozens of online professionals kicked back and talked business.
“We’re giving away massages,” said Jo “KiwiGirl” Merlone, the owner of KiwiSourcing.com, which hosted a popular cabana that featured a professional masseuse and massage chair for its guests. “We want to take the stress out of everything. We do everything from design, to programming to media buying to consulting, to actually coordinating all the events for MojoHost.”
Speaking of MojoHost, Scooter, the VP of client development, told XBIZ that attending conferences like the XBIZ Summit is all about nurturing established relationships and making new ones.
“I think going to shows is extremely necessary because you have to build the eye-contact relationships, is what I call them,” Scooter said.
Not surprisingly, the XBIZ Summit showed its international appeal as well on Wednesday as Europe was well represented with guys such as Alex Lecomte, an advertiser account manager for ExoClick, who made the trip from Barcelona.
“It’s great to see personally see our clients in real life,” Lecomte said. “It’s easier to do some business.”
Patrick von Kinderen, aka Porno Pat, traveled 20 hours from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to represent Theodoris Limited.
“We want to work together with pay sites,” von Kinderen said. “We are doing well and we’re looking for more partners.
Ihsan Atsu, an international account manager for Pay4 from Frankfurt, Germany, said his company is continuing its entry this year into the American market with his presence at the Summit.
Many attendees arrived early for the back-to-back Speed Networking sessions that highlighted the morning. Sponsored by Netbilling, the sessions brought together industry veterans and total newcomers for a rapid-fire meet-and-greet that set the tone for the week.
Paxum Sales Manager Ruth Blair said during the first session that her company is “constantly evolving. We’re always looking to enhance our service.”
Brett Thompson, a business development specialist for First Global Billing, told XBIZ he has been working in the adult space only for about 18 months but has found it refreshing.
“Everyone is very open and straightforward,” said Thompson, who came to Miami from Albany, N.Y. “It’s good to put a face to the voices here.”
Joey Gabra, managing director for Wister, said this week is all about “raising awareness” about the potential of mobile content.
“We want people to recognize the value of mobile and what they can do to make money in mobile, what they’re missing,” said Gabra, who has seven years of industry experience.
Erasmo Labaut, marketing director for the Miami-based Score Group, said his company is celebrating 20 years this summer. He has been there for 14, doing everything from editing to managing the website content.
“We’ve always done internal marketing but now we’re looking for some marketing partners,” said Labaut, who is a member of the board of directors at Score, which runs the popular eBoobStore.com.
The Wednesday evening activities were set to include the Official Welcome Reception hosted by Abella Anderson at the Shelborne Hotel’s Pool and Sand Garden, the Cybersocket Kick-Off Party at Mangos and the Late-Night Stripdown sponsored by Top Notch Cams at Scarlett’s Cabaret.

Students at a local university who were used to turning to the internet to research potential employers have been given a more personally engaging alternative: speed networking.
Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi held a career speed networking event last week to showcase 40 professions.
The exercise was based on a western dating concept that allows single people to meet and speak with a number of potential partners in quick succession. The event was organised in eight roundtables, which were held five times throughout the day. Each session lasted 30 minutes.
“The observation made by professionals, by companies, is the following: the students miss job opportunities [online] because they don’t know what they are applying for,” said Sylvie Foss, a senior project manager at the university.
The event aimed to address the issue by introducing undergraduate and master’s students to representatives of an array of professions, including public relations and non-profit activity.
“The idea is to propose to the students a wide selection of professional profiles to meet with and to get the information, not from a website or magazines, but face to face with professionals through the meetings and get the proper information about one specific profession or one specific job,” said Ms Foss.
Potential employers saw value in hosting short meetings, even though they could have discussed their professions for much longer.
“It was nice and tight, but because I love my vocation, marketing and PR and communications, I could have spoken for another hour,” said Ian Mason, the manager for corporate social responsibility, public relations and training at BrandMoxie, an Abu Dhabi advertising agency.
“But I think it is good that there’s a tight restriction on it. It keeps it round and lets more areas of industry be covered,” he said.
Fatmah Al Aboodi, a research master’s student in history who hopes to work for an international company or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs once she graduates, also attended the networking event.
“It was very helpful, since I am approaching the end of my master’s and it is about time to look for a job,” she said.
Other participants still had more than a year to go at Abu Dhabi’s Sorbonne and found the event just as useful.
Charles Soll, a student from the United States who is studying economics and management at Sorbonne, said it was important for students to receive help networking before graduating. The best schools in the US stood out “because they also provide the best networking and career opportunities for students,” he said.
Mr Soll, who arrived in the UAE three years ago and wants to enter the finance or investment banking sector, acknowledged that he has a clear idea about what he wants to do. But many students do not, which is another reason that the speed networking idea might be worthwhile.
Hala Taweel said that as a student she was uncertain of what career to pursue. Today Ms Taweel is a consultant in government relations with SAP, a higher-education consultancy, and founder of a non-profit organisation, the University of the Middle East Project.
She was speaking about her experience working for a non-governmental organisation, which typically pays less than private-sector employment. “Your reward is contributing to society in a more active way,” said Ms Taweel, who started out working in computer sciences before moving to political sciences.
She obtained a master’s in public administration and finally a PhD in higher education and university administration to set up her non-profit organisation.
“I wish I had this [speed networking] growing up and had the possibilities of seeing different people,” Ms Taweel said.

Tracking down and wooing the right mentor can be a daunting task for many budding entrepreneurs seeking business advice, but for a few hours Monday this was far from the case at the Discovery 12 Conference in Toronto. Over 150 up-and-coming entrepreneurs from across Canada gathered at the innovation-focused conference to connect with more than 150 business leaders to set the Guinness world record for “speed-networking.”
For those who have yet to try it, speed-networking is a lot like speed-dating by format, but has a decidedly more professional tone.
Groups of 12 mentors sat across long rectangular tables at the event, facing groups of 12 entrepreneurs seeking guidance across six key areas: start-up concept; business development; launching a business; sales; financing; and commercializing research. Every three minutes, on the ring of the bell, the entrepreneurs moved over one spot to connect with a new mentor, and a new source of business inspiration.
Brad Duguid, Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Innovation, was on site to sound the starting bell.
“Today’s events demonstrate a clear commitment to developing an innovation economy in Ontario and lay the foundation for good jobs and prosperity in the years to come,” he said.
The Funding Portal Founder and CEO Teri Kirk was among the mentors at Discovery 12 to provide participants with advice on government and other sources of funding for their business.
“Discovery 12’s speed-networking event is a great opportunity for both the participating mentors and entrepreneurs to create new, strategic business connections. Many entrepreneurs want to learn more about public funding,” Ms. Kirk said following the event.

“The Funding Portal’s Find It tool currently provides access to more than 4,000 distinct sources of funding disbursing some $16 billion in grants, contributions and tax incentive programs for business each year. This spring, we are also adding all private sources of growth and RD funding. The Funding Portal is a need-to-have tool for entrepreneurs and early-stage companies, as well as Canada’s industrial RD giants and leaders. “
Ms. Kirk was joined by several other notable mentors, including: Sir Terry Matthews, Founder and Chairman of Wesley Clover; Bill Tatham, CEO of NexJ Systems; and David Teten, Partner at ff Venture Capital.
Organized by the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), the Discovery 12 conference was named Canada’s best trade show in 2010 and 2011, reuniting over 2,600 attendees and 350 exhibitors from the academic, public and private sectors. The conference showcases leading-edge technologies, best practices and research across various fields, including clean energy, health, information and communications technology, and manufacturing.
“Discovery is all about sharing best practices, bringing people and ideas together,” said Dr. Tom Corr, President and CEO, OCE.
“Budding entrepreneurs will have a captive audience to question and learn from while seasoned business leaders and investors will see and experience the latest in innovation.”
The conference continues Tuesday at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Several federal and provincial government organizations, including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC), the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and FedDev Ontario, will be on-hand to showcase and discuss their individual industrial support programs and answer questions from attendees.

record in Most People Attending a Business Speed Networking Event -
Single Venue category
TORONTO, May 15, 2012 /CNW/ – 328 of the brightest minds in Canada
speed-networked their way to setting the newest Guinness World Record
in the Most People Attending a Business Speed Networking Event – Single
Venue category at the Discovery 12 conference hosted by Ontario Centres
of Excellence.
The World’s Largest Business Mentoring event is the first to set the
“Most People Attending a Business Speed Networking Event – Single
Venue” record. The event brought more than 160 of the brightest
business leaders in the country together in one room with over 160
eager entrepreneurs in a timed networking event
To achieve the record, the World’s Largest Business Mentoring Event had
to have a minimum of 250 participants; be timed; and each participant
had to achieve a minimum of 20 distinct interactions lasting
three-minutes each that were recorded and verified on-site by an
official Guinness World Records judge.
‘This is a tremendous achievement and a unique once-in-a-lifetime
experience for both the mentors and protégés involved in the event,”
says Dr. Tom Corr, President and CEO, Ontario Centres of Excellence.
“The intensity and knowledge-sharing that happened on the floor could
not be replicated like this anywhere else. It has also given
participants the foundation to form new and on-going dialogue that
could result in future partnerships and collaborations which is really
exciting.”
“I would like to extend my congratulations to the Ontario Centres of
Excellence and to the over 300 mentors and participants who made
achieving the World Record for the largest business mentoring event a
reality,” said Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development and
Innovation. “The room was full of creative minds and endless
possibilities – a clear demonstration of commitment to building
Ontario’s innovation economy.”
“The success of this record was derived from the level of detail that
went into organizing it,” adds Philip Robertson, Adjudicator, Guinness
World Records. “This particular record was attempted before
unsuccessfully. But this time, it wasn’t just about the record, it was
important to see the protégés and mentors walk away with a meaningful
exchange.”
The event ran in a speed-networking format and was facilitated by
Canada’s queen of networking, Donna Messer, author, speaker and trainer
for ConnectUs Communications Canada. Ontario Centres of Excellence
worked with Jeremy O’Krafka founder of MENTORnetwork a business that
works with entrepreneurs serving organizations to support their
mentorship programs through mentor recruitment, training, events and
program management, to assist in structuring the event.

Most businesses today likely have a website and Facebook account, but may not be getting the maximum value from their digital presence. Nor do they know where to turn for help in improving their online “store.”
That’s what the Desert Southwest Marketing and Social Networking Expo is all about. It will provide opportunities for learning and networking that promote career growth and business success. It also will encourage the exchange of ideas and best practices by presenting marketing case studies and the latest innovations of industry leaders.
The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Quechan Casino Resort.
The goal is to help small and medium businesses effectively promote themselves in the digital world of social media and interactive advertising, said Roger Lopez, marketing director for Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and one of the organizers of the inaugural event.
But the expo isn’t limited to e-commerce, he said, noting that not only business people but nonprofit organizations and government entities will also
benefit from the training and networking it will provide.
“We want to help them realize more value from their digital presence,” he
said.
At the same time, Lopez said, many small businesses don’t know where to
go for help.
Therefore, he said, the expo also provides an opportunity to showcase
local talent that is savvy about working the Web and social media.
“They’ll be able to interface with resources. And 80 percent of them are
local. They’ll be able to build relationships.”
Lopez said he has been working with Arizona Western College Small
Business Development Center and the Yuma Sun’s interactive marketing
department to train businesses. But he wanted a larger and more effective
outreach vehicle.
“We decided we needed to do it right and do it big,” he said.
“As leaders in Yuma’s social media and interactive community, we felt
that this is a perfect opportunity for us to sponsor the Digital Media Expo,”
said Lisa Reilly, advertising director for the Yuma Sun, a major sponsor of
the event. “It brings an opportunity for businesses to learn about interactive
solutions that are available locally that will help them grow their
businesses.”
The event will include speakers with industry expertise, a full day of
training with more than 20 classes covering a range of digital media topics
and more than 50 booths presenting the latest in products and services.
For more information, visit www.digitalSMBExpo.com.
Cost for the expo is $119 by Tuesday or $129 at the door. The fee
includes general admission, access to classes all day and a free drink at the
networking wrap party. General admission is $5 online or $8 at the door.
The presenters include:
–Lopez has more than 13 years of marketing leadership, is proficient in
established mediums such as print, television and outdoor advertising and is a
trendsetter in the new medias. For questions, contact him at Twitter @inemode.
–Prakash Gupta, CEO of Atom Sage, began his interest in technology at
the age of 15 when he began dissecting the household radio, much to the
chagrin of his parents. Today he specializes in social media marketing
campaigns, integrating them with his software and Web development background.
–Lizette Lopez, a digital consultant with Inemode, brings a wealth of
tactical digital knowledge to her clients that focuses on industry standard
best practices in combination with her past decade of retail management.

design. Able to use technology with business demands, he has continually

–Jody Robb, digital design manager for F+W Media Inc., designs websites
for multiple platforms, including WordPress, e-Touches, Ning, Magento and HTML
sites. She is an expert in email design, coding and deliverability across
various email clients
–Vanessa Blackburn, business analyst for the SBDC, provides social media
